How to Install a Wall-Mounted Marble Sink: A Practical Checklist

A floating marble sink looks effortless, but a solid stone basin is heavy, and the work that makes it safe happens inside the wall. This checklist covers what to plan before your sink arrives. It is a planning guide, not a substitute for a qualified installer who can see your wall.

1. Know the weight

A compact 24-inch marble basin can weigh around 45 to 55 kg (100 to 120 lb), and wider or deeper pieces weigh much more. Ask for the estimated weight of your exact piece and share it with your installer or contractor early. The wall has to carry the stone plus anything placed on it and anyone leaning on it.

2. Plan the wall support

  • Stud walls: add solid horizontal blocking between the studs at the mounting height before the wall is closed.
  • Masonry or concrete walls: confirm the anchors are rated for the load.
  • Tiled walls: decide whether the sink mounts through finished tile or onto the substrate behind it.

3. Choose the mounting system

Stone sinks are usually carried by steel brackets, either visible under the basin or concealed in the wall, sometimes combined with a structural adhesive along the back edge. The right system depends on the sink's size, weight and design. Note that brackets are not included with MEG sinks, so they should be specified and sourced with your installer.

4. Set the plumbing positions

  • Drain: confirm where the drain sits in the basin and set the wall rough-in to match.
  • Faucet: decide early between a deck-mounted faucet on the stone or a wall-mounted faucet above it. A wall-mounted faucet needs its valve in the wall before tiling, and the spout reach must suit the basin depth.
  • Faucet holes: for deck-mounted faucets we drill to US standards: 8-inch widespread, single-hole or 4-inch centerset.

5. Confirm the height

Bathroom counters are commonly installed somewhere between about 32 and 36 inches from the floor, with taller heights often preferred in main bathrooms. For a vessel or deep basin, measure to the rim, not the mounting line, and agree the final height with everyone who will use the sink.

6. Prepare the delivery route

Stone arrives crated. Check door widths, stairs and elevator access, and make sure enough people are on site to carry the piece safely. When the crate arrives, open and inspect it while the courier is present.

7. Seal and finish

After installation, run a neat bead of silicone where the stone meets the wall. Make sure the stone is sealed before regular use; see our care guide.

How we help

Every MEG sink comes with a dimensioned shop drawing that you approve before production, so your installer knows the exact size, drain and faucet positions in advance. Explore our wall-mounted marble sinks or send us your measurements.
